It’s party time!

A centesimo is a unit of currency in Nova Venezia (named after the coin used in Italy in pre-Euro days). 100 centesimi = 1 tribuno (which I just made up).

Hello, long time reader, never posted before, maybe because I couldn’t think of something to say – besides “BRAVO!” I mean :-)

Actually, in Italy we have centesimi (cents) again since the introduction of the Euro. Keep in mind that 1 Euro = 1936.27 Italian Lire (the old currency); according to Wikipedia, Centesimi of Italian Lira haven’t been legal since 1924 ;-)

The most important coins in the Republic of Venice were the Ducato (silver) and the Zecchino (gold) – I am pretty sure there were smaller coins but I don’t know much about that :-)

Did I say I love the comic?

(p.s. the Tribuno was a magistrate in ancient Rome – so it’s not a word you made up ;-) )

Hi BigNemo and thanks for the kind words and comments.
As I was writing about centesimi I was thinking “I don’t remember seeing any of these…” and you’ve reminded me why! I felt like a millionaire whenever I visited Italy.
I’d assumed the Euro cents were called ‘cents’ in Italy but now I am better informed – thanks.
Tribuno was also the name of Doge of Venice so I’ll claim it’s all part of my master plan…. ;-)
